Charles Chapman, 31, of Woodbine, is charged with third-degree possession of child pornography, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced on Friday, Feb. 2.
The investigation began after an online tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said that Chapman had pictures of child sexual abuse on his cloud account.
Investigators from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, state police, and the county prosecutor's office executed a search warrant at Chapman's home on Thursday, Feb. 1. Officers found that Chapman had child sexual abuse material and looked at it.
Chapman was held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility. He's facing three to five years in state prison if convicted.
Sutherland also said this investigation is part of the county prosecutor's office's ongoing effort to prosecute people who exploit children or have child pornography. Anyone with information about child exploitation should report it by calling the prosecutor's office at 609-465-1135 or filing anonymous tips online at cmcpo.tips and cmcsheriff.net.
You can also call the Cape May County Crime Stoppers at 609-889-3597.
